Summer Infant Day and Night Video Monitor with 5″ Screen

Most video baby monitors on the market these days range in price from anywhere in the mid $100s to $200s.  While most parents have found these monitors to provide them with security knowing they can always keep a watchful eye on their sleeping child, as a consumer, you have to ask is there a baby monitor on the market that works sufficiently enough, but costs less than $100?  Here at Best Video Baby Monitor, I plan on answering that question by introducing a series of reviews of monitors that cost less than $100.

First up is the Summer Infant Day & Night Baby Video Monitor.  Summer Infant is one of the better known companies and has a huge lineup of products for children.  In fact, I have reviewed a Summer Infant baby monitor and found it to be a great product.  The Day & Night Baby Video Monitor does what you would want a baby monitor to do, stripped down to the bare essentials.  It comes with a large 5” black and white monitor (as opposed to smaller, color LCD screens in more expensive models) and a 900Mhz transmission technology providing a very capable video and audio range of up to 350 feet.  Plus it has 3 channel selection to help minimize interference (video and audio transmissions at this level tend to interfere easily with other household electronics like a cordless phone or a microwave).  And, of course, it offers night-vision so that you will be able to see your child in the dark.  This baby monitor does not come equipped with some of the extra features you would find in a more expensive one, like talk-to-baby intercom, nightlights, the ability to play lullabies, or record and stream video.  But that is how Summer Infant is able to keep the price below $100 while still doing what it needs to do, seeing and hearing your baby.

Summer Infant Day and Night Video Monitor User Reviews

This Summer Infant baby monitor gets mixed reviews from parents who have used it.  That is to be expected from a baby monitor at this price point, because you have to sacrifice some technology in order to keep the price lower than other baby monitors on the market.  A quick look at Amazon shows that it has an average 3 star rating based on 43 customer reviews.

Some parents find the Day & Night Baby Video Monitor to be a great value for the price.  One user found that once they switched the channel on the monitor, they had interference-free video and audio reception.  Other parents were happy with the big, clear picture on the 5″ monitor (even if it is just in black and white), and the audio came in crisp as well.  And even though the monitor can be bulky, it is battery operated, making it portable.  Most parents are able to carry it to whatever room in the house they are in.

The complaints that parents voiced centered around two things: reception and audio levels.  Some parents were never able to get a clear channel despite the monitor being equipped with 3 channels.  No matter where it was placed the video feed always had static.  This is a common complaint for video baby monitors with 900mhz transmission because it more susceptible to interference from other household items.  Frankly, this is hit or miss, depending on where you live and what is in your house.  Some parents had great reception and some do not.  Also, some parents complained that it always gave off a loud, audible noise, making it difficult to deal with.
